Interpreting the life, structures, and development of society in a changing world.

It places the study of society within the wider intellectual traditions of India and the world while remaining attentive to the lived realities of the region. Its curriculum and research engage with caste, tribe, gender, development, displacement, migration, urbanisation, environment, health, and social justice, combining theoretical reflection with field-based learning, empirical inquiry, and interdisciplinary scholarship.
