WELCOME TO NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS), UTKAL UNIVERSITY
Established in 1969, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit in Utkal University organizes several activities with an aim to bring personality development of the students through Community Service. With the active participation of students the unit strives to inculcate civic and social responsibility in the students.
National service scheme (NSS) has been introduced at Utkal University since 1969 as a part of the academic programme .The objective of the scheme is “Education and Service” to the community which cater the needs of the society. This scheme helps the students in development of behavior and interactive skill. The NSS volunteers take the initiations to inculcate the spirit of patriotism, national integration, brotherhood, communal harmony, cleanness among the people. The NSS Bureau, Utkal University is the largest Bureau of Odisha consists of 239 units having 23900 volunteers.

NSS award 2018-19 own by Shree Satyajit DasNagarbandhu Award:
The NSS Bureau, Utkal University is the only Bureau which is being awarded with Nagar Bandhu Samman for its outstanding contribution in Smart City Campaign, Awareness Building on Dengu & Malaria, Environment protection through Swachha Bharat Mission, Plantation, Anti-Tobacco and Polythene free campus, Awareness on Energy Conservation etc by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (B.M.C) on 30.08.2016.
Prakrutimitra Award:-
The NSS Bureau, Utkal University is the 1st and only University in the State of Odisha which was awarded with Prakruti Mitra Award 2017 by the Ministry of Forest & Environment, Govt.of odisha in a State Level Function organized on 05.06.2017 i.e on the eve of celebration of World Environment Day. The Award consisting of a citation with a cash prize of Rs.10,000/- was given by the Hon,ble Chief Minister of Odisha in the presence of the Hon,ble Minister of Forest & Environment Govt.of Odisha, Secy. forest & Environment and other dignitaries on the dais . The Award is conformed on the basis of outstanding activities organized by the Bureau itself as wall as the different NSS Units at their college level like Swachha Bharat Abjhijan, large scale Plantation, Motivation for Body & Organ Donation, Installation of Smart Lab for Smart city campaign, Awareness on energy conservation and use of LED Lights, Solar Energy, promotion of digital/cashless transaction etc.
