Pioneering advanced materials and molecular innovation through chemistry.

Established in 1967, the Department of Chemistry has built a distinguished legacy of excellence in teaching, research, and innovation. It offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes and has produced over 1,300 postgraduates and 250 doctoral graduates, with its students consistently performing well in national competitive examinations such as GATE and NET. Its internationally recognised faculty are actively engaged in cutting-edge research across materials chemistry, catalysis, nanomaterials, coordination chemistry, polymers, organometallics, and organic synthesis — work supported by UGC schemes (SAP, ASSIST, DSA I, DSA-II) and DST programmes (FIST and PURSE), alongside sponsored research projects secured by individual faculty members. This research strength is reflected in more than 30 high-impact publications annually and sustained by a distinguished global alumni network that continues to contribute to the department’s growth. It currently manages eight funded research projects worth ₹1.57 crore and has successfully completed seven major projects over the last five years. It has also established a Centre of Excellence in Advanced Materials and Applications, further strengthening its research profile.
