  • Dr. Pradipta Kumar Jesthi joined the Department as Lecturer in Organic Chemistry in the year 1968 and served the Department for 9 years. He completed M. Sc. in 1959 and Ph.D. in 1968 working under the guidance of (late) Professor Dr. M. K. Rout. He carried out Post-doctoral research on Boron Chemistry with Professor Donald S. Matteson (chemistry Faculty) and Prof. Rich Nayer (Pharmacy Faculty) of Washington State University, Pullman, Washington, USA. Later on, he availed post doctoral fellowship to work on the pharmacological aspect of novel Boron Compounds with Professor G. Yost of the Pharmacology department, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, USA. The research area of Prof. Jesthi includes synthetic organic Chemistry, photographic sensitizing dyes, heterocyclic compounds, nucleosides and nucleotides, organometallic compounds, and labelled compounds.
  • Prof. Jesthi published 37 papers in national and international journals. Many students have benefitted from his research guidance leading to Ph.D. degrees. In recognition of his contributions to chemistry teaching and research, he was chosen as the “Chemistry teacher of the year” in 1977 by the Orissa Chemical Society. Prof. Jesthi has been a life fellow of the Indian Chemical Society (since 1976), and the Institution of Chemists, India (since 1977). Prof. Jesthi has served as the president, dean of faculty and patron member of many distinguished institutions. He was also the Director of Higher Education of the state (1996–1997). He has contributed immensely to the benefit of the postgraduate students of the department. Prof. Jesthi left for his heavenly abode on October 10, 2021.
