Dr. Bhaskar Dash was the second faculty member of this department who came from Ravenshaw College, Cuttack. He joined the department as a lecturer in Organic Chemistry in 1967 after having completed 10 years (1957–1967) of teaching and research in Organic Chemistry. During 1963-1966 he availed Post-doctoral fellowship from Professor O. Friedman of Brandies University, Waltham, U. S. A. and worked for one year on the synthesis of Nucleic acids and then shifted to Cambridge, M.I.T., USA to work with Prof. N. A. Mailas for a period of two years on the synthesis of Vitamin D3. Dr. Dash Retired from the department as a Professor of Chemistry in 1990. He also acted as HOD Chemistry (in charge) for a short interim period. After retirement Professor Dash was also involved in research activities as an Emeritus Scientist of the UGC in the Department for four years. His academic attainments are: Member of Sigma-Xi Society, USA, M I T Chapter, Fellow of Indian Chemical Society, Member of Institution of Chemists, India, Member of Orissa Chemical Society; he was invited to several National and International Symposia to participate and deliver lectures. He has contributed significantly to Organic Synthesis and Mechanisms of Organic Reactions. Eight students have been awarded Ph. D. under his direct supervision. He has 100 publications to his credit in National and International Peer reviewed Journals. Professor Dash is one of the pioneers and has contributed very significantly to the all-round development of the department. His financial contribution to the Alumni Association for the institution of prizes for students is duly acknowledged. Prof. Dash left for his heavenly abode on October 10, 2021.
