Shaping Ethical Leaders and Innovative Administrators towards Responsive Governance and Sustainable Development across the Globe.

Established in 1996, the department of Public Administration was created to address the growing need for quality education and research in governance, public policy, and administration. Since then, it has evolved into a multidisciplinary centre of excellence, attracting students from diverse academic backgrounds and promoting innovative teaching, policy-oriented research, and community engagement.

Alongside postgraduate and doctoral programmes in Public Administration, it also offers programmes in Journalism and Mass Communication, fostering interdisciplinary learning. With distinguished faculty, active research initiatives, and a commitment to academic excellence, it prepares competent professionals, scholars, administrators, and future leaders capable of addressing contemporary governance challenges.

Thrust Areas of Research

Vision

  • To emerge as a nationally and internationally recognised centre of excellence in Public Administration and Public Policy by advancing innovative teaching, interdisciplinary research, ethical leadership and transformative governance for an inclusive, democratic and sustainable society.

Mission

  • To provide high-quality education, research, and professional training in Public Administration, Public Policy, Governance, and Development Studies, nurturing ethical, competent, and socially responsible leaders.
  • To promote interdisciplinary and applied research, policy engagement, and collaborative partnerships that advance effective governance, sustainable development, and public service excellence at regional, national, and global levels.
  • To encourage faculty to develop text and reference materials that support the dissemination and popularization of the discipline, while expanding interdisciplinary research grounded in ethical values.
  • To provide academic support to students and scholars — including those aspiring to civil services — through add-on and value-added courses.

Strategic Goals

  • Equip students with the knowledge, skills, values, and problem-solving, leadership, and teamwork abilities needed to become successful, ethical, and socially committed citizens.
  • Advance interdisciplinary research and creative inquiry — through specialized themes such as public policy evaluation, gender studies, e-governance, and contemporary governance issues — to build a meaningful and sustainable society.
  • Expand global engagement through substantial MoUs and international collaborations, creating a platform for the free flow of ideas, discovery, and professional development.
  • Strengthen community engagement and public outreach through the department’s Policy Lab, alongside a Podcast Hub and digitally interactive alumni interface to sustain lifelong academic and professional connections.
  • Advance sustainability within the department by meeting its primary energy needs through renewable energy sources.
