Utkal University

Established in 1958, the Department of Statistics at Utkal University is the first Postgraduate Department of Statistics in Odisha and one of the oldest centres for statistical education and research in Eastern India. Its foundation was laid through the visionary efforts of Late Professor Bama Charan Das, with invaluable contributions from Late Dr. Chakradhar Mishra. Under the pioneering leadership of its first Head, Late Professor Sadhu Charan Das, and the distinguished stewardship of Professor J. Sarangi and successive faculty members, the Department has evolved into a vibrant centre of academic excellence. Over more than six decades, the Department has nurtured generations of accomplished academicians, researchers, administrators, and professionals who continue to serve the discipline and society with distinction.

Alumni

Utkal Statistics Alumni Association (USAA) is a registered society. USAA is working for the cause of the subject “Statistics” and the Statisticians. Recently USAA had celebrated its 7^th Annual meet (dt.19.12.2021, Sunday) in the department premises. More than 75 alumni members were gathered in the meet and discussed various issues related to subject, its growth and prospects. USAA in collaboration with the department of Statistics jointly organizing Statistics Olympiad among intermediate (+2) students every year.

During 2015-16 USAA had created a “Corpus Fund”, of Rs.1.00 lakh by way of depositing a fixed amount in the Syndicate Bank, Utkal University Branch. This Corpus Fund had been created with the objective of utilising its interest for the purpose of popularising the subject “Statistics” as well as assisting poor and meritorious students pursuing their education at different levels with Statistics as a core subject of their study.
