The Department was established in 1966 under the leadership of Prof. S. C. Dash, with founding faculty members Dr. S. Pattanayak and Dr. B. P. Acharya. Over the decades, it has grown into a vibrant centre of higher learning, producing accomplished academicians, researchers, and professionals across diverse fields. In 1972, the department pioneered the Orissa Mathematical Society and has since served as its headquarters, contributing to curriculum development and mathematics education across the state. In 1999, it became part of the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science, strengthening interdisciplinary teaching and research. Today, with dedicated faculty, modern research facilities, and a forward-looking curriculum, the department continues shaping future leaders in mathematics and allied disciplines.
