The Art of Thinking Critically: Cultivating Wisdom Through Philosophical Analysis

The Department of Philosophy at Utkal University was established in 1957, inspired by philosophers Pandit Nilakantha Das and Pandit Godavarish Mishra, who advanced higher education in Odisha. It was the first department in the state to offer an M.A. in Philosophy and was initially led by Ratnakar Pati. Recognized for excellence in teaching and research, the department received UGC’s Department of Special Assistance status from 1988 to 2006. After three successful tenures, it was upgraded to a Centre of Advanced Study in 2007. The department also publishes the Indian Journal of Analytical Philosophy annually.
