Dr. S. P. Rout joined the Department as Reader in
Chemistry, and became Professor in 2000. He completed graduation from Utkal University as University Topper in the year 1970, Post-Graduation Chemistry in 1972, securing First position with University Gold Medal, from Utkal University and subsequently Ph.D. in 1977 and D.Sc. in 1990 from the same University. Prior to joining the Department, he served as a Lecturer at Ravenshaw College and Reader at Basic Science College, OUAT.
His main research areas include polymer
chemistry and environmental chemistry. He has published 75 research papers in journals of national and international repute besides guiding 20 Ph.D. scholars and 16 M.Phil. students. He successfully completed 02 research projects funded by National funding agencies.
In recognition of his research credentials, he was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to work at the University of Florida, USA, and a Commonwealth Fellowship to work at the University of Liverpool besides being recognized as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK. He has served as the Member of the State Impact Assessment Authority, Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India, and Executive member, the Orissa State Pollution Control Board. He is life member of many professional societies in India and abroad.
He retired from active service in 2010.
