Prof. (Dr.) Nigamananda Das

Dr. Nigamananda Das obtained his M.Sc. (1985) and Ph.D. (1991) from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and D.Sc. (2013) from North Orissa University, Baripada.
Before joining Utkal University, he served as a Lecturer, S.K. University (1996-2000), Scientist at CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur (2000-2005), and Professor of Chemistry at North Orissa University, Baripada (2005-2014) and Ravenshaw University, Cuttack (2014-2015). He joined Utkal University as a Professor of Chemistry in 2015 and continued in the same post till his superannuation on 30th November 2024.
Dr. Das has undertaken Post-Doctoral research works as BOYSCAST (DST, Govt. of India) and INSA visiting Fellows at CNRS Laboratory, France, and CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai. His main research area is ‘Materials Chemistry and Catalysis’ focusing on materials development for energy and environmental applications. He has published 160+ research articles in referred National and International journals with 5500+ citations, h-index of 33 and i-10 index of 62 besides publications of one book, several book chapters, and one Indian patent. He has successfully guided 19 Ph.D. students. Dr. Das has undertaken 14 sponsored/in-house research projects as Principal Investigator/ Co-Investigators besides Coordinators of DST-FIST/UGC-SAP programmes and Centre of Excellence at different institutions. He is also a recipient of the ‘Best PG Chemistry Teachers Award – 2018’ by the Association of Chemistry Teachers, India.
In 20 years of service at Universities, Prof. Das has successfully discharged several academic administrative responsibilities including Chairperson, Post Graduate Council; Directors of College Development Council, Research & Development, IQAC, etc.; Head of the Chemistry Department; Dean of Physical Sciences/Science & Technology and also severed as Members/Chairman of several academic and administrative bodies like Syndicate, Senate, Academic Council, Board of Studies, Subject/University Research Committee, Affiliation Committee, etc. Prof. Das has completed the MHRD, Govt. of India sponsored ‘Leadership for Academicians Programme (LEAP)’ conducted at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai and the University of Pennsylvania, USA in 2019. Prof. Das has been an active National Assessment & Accreditation Council Peer Team Member since 2012. He is Patron/Life member of many Professional bodies and also a Fellow of the Royal Society in Chemistry (FRSC), UK.
