Baishab Charan Singh Passed M.Sc. (Chemistry) from Utkal University in 1971 securing 1st position. He joined as Lecturer in Chemistry at Ravenshaw College in the same year. He is a recipient of the Common Wealth Fellowship and visited the University of British Columbia. He obtained Ph.D. from Utkal University in 1977 as well as from the University of British Columbia, Canada.
He joined Utkal University on 1st March 1985 as a Reader and left the Department in 1996 to join as a Professor of Chemistry at G. M. College, Sambalpur and later at Ravenshaw College, Cuttack. During his stay at Utkal University, he also served as Head of the Department from June 1996 to October 1996.
His research activities include biodegradable polymers and water pollution. Prof. Singh has successfully completed serval projects funded by DST, CSIR, and UGC. He has guided 21 Ph.D. students and published more than 100 research papers in National and International journals. He has also authored a few textbooks in chemistry for +2 science and +3 science students. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and chattered chemist (C.Chem.).
He retired as a Professor of Chemistry on 31st January, 2005.
